At Trailblazers Academy, every student is assigned a Family Advocate when he/she begins her educational journey at the school.
What does Family Advocacy promote?
- Services and supports based on family-identified needs and strengths
- Equal partnerships with families in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of services
- Family involvement in all aspects of a child’s care
What do Family Advocates provide?
- Wrap-around services for families including assistance with referrals to community resources
- Support transitioning into post-secondary services
- Assistance with a child’s educational process
- Services in the home or community to ensure full participation by all family members
- Assistance for family members to be equal partners in all levels of assessment, planning, and implementation of services for their children
What skills do Family Advocates teach?
- Social and emotional skill instruction
- Anger management skill development
- Behavior management strategies
- Conflict resolution
- Mediation
- Healthy relationship-building techniques
